Review the following table for a feature comparison, but in brief: The LITE version (FREE) is ideal for "getting your feet wet" with computer navigation, or for occasional boat users (or desktop sailors) who don't require much more than plotting the boat's position on a chart. Or those who know their local cruising grounds so well that a chart is superfluous, but will be thankful for the powerful navigation tools in SOB (such as Wpts, chart notes, TTG and distance calculations etc). A Trial/Registered user can evaluate all SOB features (except for the Networking features) for a full month. Overcoming the various issues involved with computerised navigation along the way - choosing a laptop/desktop and mounting it onboard. Connecting your NMEA enabled instruments to the PC and sorting out your power-supply issues. A SOB User License is required to continue to use SOB beyond the trial period with the licensed features enabled. A Standard License is ideal for the typical weekend-sailor or cruiser with minimum instruments and electronics onboard and mostly short coastal legs in familiar waters, and for use in areas with minimal commercial traffic or without AIS receiver capabilities. The Pro License is recommended for Power Users (of both boats and IT) example a keen club racer with strong computer/navigation skills and enjoys electronics! This version would be recommended for the following example users: offshore passaging or extended cruising; any professionals; commercial operators; VTS Base Stations; remote ship monitoring and any and all networked configurations.
* A Commercial Operator's License is
available. ** Limited by available computer power (memory, disk space etc) *** Actually SOB's limit is set at 2,000 simultaneous targets as this is the maximum that is accounted for in the official specifications (ITU-1371) for UAIS For details on "How and Where" SOB installs itself, or

*** NOTE (Jan
2008) *** C-Map has recently released a new version of its USBMM Card Reader (USB2), which at present is only fully compatible with PC Planner. This reader is identified as it has "Jeppesen" included in its logo. We have interim support available for this reader via a patch which you must download and manual install. Further Information Apart from allowing chart cartridge access with the new USB2 MMR Card Reader in SOB, chart access will be significantly quicker resulting in faster chart refreshing - panning/zooming etc. At this stage, UserCards are not supported with this patch. UserCard support will be included in the next SOB version. |
