Dedicated Active GPS Antenna

Setup disk for uploading MMSI and Static Data

All vessels over 300 tons and all passenger vessels are legally required to carry a "Class A" AIS transponder. Class A transponders are many thousands of dollars, now the "Class B" standard has been ratified for use by all other vessels. Class B transponders are designed as a more affordable AIS transmitter for the recreational boater.

Class B transponders are also ideal for non-SOLAS fleet tracking and traffic management requirements.

  • Includes all the features and benefits of the commercial "Class A" transmitters but not all static ship's data need be sent (eg: ship's dimensions, destination, ETA).

  • The CSB200 enables boats sailing in busy shipping lanes to automatically transmit their current position, course and speed to other vessels and shore stations within VHF range.

  • The CSB200 also contains a dual channel AIS receiver thus once connected to SOB other vessels and nav-aids etc fitted with AIS can be received and displayed.

  • GPS Antenna:

The AIS Transponder requires a dedicated active GPS antenna. The GPS is included and connects via a TNC connector to the CSB200.

The GPS is designed for external pole or flush mounting. For rail-mounting, see the standard mounting adaptor below.

  • Installation:
Installation is quick and simple. The CSB200 requires a 12vDC power source, and connection to an external VHF aerial (BNC connector) and GPS antenna (TNC connector). The vessel's initial static information is programmed via a PC by the user.

Vessels with AIS transponders will require an MMSI number issued by the IMO.

Automatic Antenna Splitter:
Share your SR161 with an existing VHF antenna
:

AUD $180.00

The SR161 AIS is a receive-only AIS device.

The SR161 is a low cost AIS receiver, designed specifically for the Leisure Marine and Fishing Boat market. It acquires targets from AIS equipped ships and nav-aids and displays these targets in SOB.

All vessels over 300 tons and all passenger vessels are legally required to carry an AIS transponder. The SR161 AIS receives these transmissions and converts them to NMEA format for use with SOB.

The unit is supplied with a 12 volt power cable and a 9 pin serial connector which will require a standard 9-pin serial computer cable.

Specifications:

  • Class A and Class B compatible
  • Dimensions - 115 x 75 x 28mm, Weight - 400g
  • Operating frequencies - 162.025 and 161.975 MHz (2 Channel)
  • DC Power: Voltage - 9 to 15 volts DC; Power < 1Watt
  • Antenna input - 50 ohm BNC (standard VHF radio antenna)
  • Data connector - 9 pin "D" type
  • Output format - NMEA 2000/0183 (38400 Baud)

  • VDM encapsulation string conforming to ITU-1371 and NMEA 0183

The AIS Engine requires its own marine VHF antenna (not supplied) or can be shared with a VHF transceiver antenna by using the optional VHF Automatic Antenna Splitter. The antenna should be mounted as high as possible to maximise range but should be spaced not less than 1 metre from a transmitting antenna. The antenna cable should be at least 3 metres long and the antenna should be sited at least 2 metres from the AIS Receiver. The antenna should be a 50 ohm general purpose marine VHF antenna. The SR161 is not watertight so it must be mounted in a position which is dry at all times.

More AIS information refer to the dedicated "Targets" Chapter in the SOB PDF User Manual.

Automatic Antenna Splitter:

To simplify installation you can share an existing VHF antenna by using this splitter. It safely isolates the AIS receiver when you transmit on your VHF radio.

It's a good solution when it is difficult to install an additional antenna or you wish to share your existing masthead antenna.

The splitter is specifically designed for AIS and comes with the proper cables to plug directly into the AIS receiver and your VHF radio. It is an active unit that requires a 12VDC power source. Once installed, you won't need to worry about damaging your AIS receiver when you transmit on your VHF radio.

You install it by simply inserting it between your existing VHF radio and antenna connection, and connecting the power cables to yoru 12V battery source.

  • Power supply: 9-16V DC
  • Power consumption: <0.1W
  • Frequency range 155-163 MHz
  • Insertion loss : <1dB
